Unfortunately I am only allowed to post a limited number of photos – but there are not enough words to describe the “amazingness” of this place.
First of all, credit to Jean de Freitas for the recommendation! Well done!Second of all, the vibe is amazing and the decor is urban-industrial – very much to the liking of my partner.
The restaurant is a collaboration with a craft brewery, Mad Giant. Slightly confusing for a first-timer, but it all makes sense when you tuck into the craft beer and food.
It was a sunny winter’s midday when we arrived to nab one of the last available tables (try to book a table!).
The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! (Con)Fusion cooking done to an art! The food philosophy is based on cooking methods more than courses, which means the food is supposed to be shared as Tapas and you have to experience the different cooking methods and combinations – rather than a boring plate of food.
Go and ask for Clement, he is one of the nicest Servers I’ve met in a while. He is knowledgeable, friendly, intuitive and efficient.
Rundown of dishes we LOVED:
Steamed Brioche bun filled with Truffle Creme & topped with toasted Potato Skin Salt.
Apple-jalapeno cured Octopus & Tuna tataki, raw Turnip with spicy Coriander-Lime Dressing
Flame-roasted Sweet Potato, Buffalo Milk Labneh & Pork Crackling.
Banana-Barley Malt Ice-cream, Dark Beer Gateau, Dark Beer Caramel, Mad Giant’s True Grit Beer Fromage Blanc & Oat Crisp.
Beer jellies – after the meal we were presented with these glistening gems. *mind blown*
LOVED a little less:
Lightly smoked dark Chocolate Milk, Passion fruit Caramel & toasted Rice.
(Personal preference I suppose. This smoked chocolate mousse dish hit you in the face with a smoke-shovel! Intense flavour and bold combinations. )
The cutlery is edgy and funky – as you would expect. Decor is urban and impressive.
The food was simply sublime, and priced quite reasonable, considering we’ve had incredible ingredients/produce/dishes and this under the mentoring hand of Chef Angelo Scirocco (who worked as Sous Chef at Chefs Warehouse in Cape Town and competed at the 2015 S.Pellegrino Young Chef Awards). Such incredible young-talent (not bad for a CBC Pretoria lad); and it shows!
